Ben Garen, '85. The Clarksville Taekwondo Academy (CTA) is a unique martial arts school partnering with public schools, community centers, and institutions of higher learning to offer instruction in the Korean martial art Taekwondo. Head instructor and owner Ben Garen was introduced to Taekwondo while attending SAHS from 1983 through 1985. Training for two years under Dr. Un Yong Kim, former president of the Korea Taekwondo Association, the World Taekwondo Federation, and the Kukkiwon, world headquarters of Taekwondo, Ben went on to continue his training in the U.S. and in Izmir, Turkey. The CTA focuses on traditional, non-competitive Taekwondo with an emphasis on safety, health, and personal empowerment. With degrees in Elementary Education and Humanities, Mr. Garen has designed an innovative curriculum that supplements the mental and physical aspects of conventional Taekwondo training with additional character development components including Leadership and Emotional Intelligence. Visit the CTA website at www.geocities.com/ClarksvilleTKDAcademy. You can contact Ben and the CTA at (931) 648-4523 or via e-mail at dbgaren@syberwerx.net.
